Being a celebrity means you have to make appearances all the time. Charity functions, premieres and openings often require the presence of a popular public figure. The best way to get to these events is by plane. Celebrities are still people and can have a range of emotions that can be shown at any given time. It seems that these emotions are often displayed while flying and the flight crews are often on the receiving end. Flight attendants have to deal with people everyday and seeing a celebrity on their flight may not be a surprise for them. How these celebrities act is what the flight crews remembers. Here are some accounts from flight crew members of how some celebrities behaved while flying to their destination.

Bob Geldof

Bob Geldof was the lead singer of the Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats in the 70’s and 80’s. The singer/songwriter is widely recognized for his activism, especially anti-poverty efforts concerning Africa. That means he is always traveling by plane for long periods of time. That alone can make you a little irritated. I guess that’s why flight attendants called him “rude.” Another flight attendant from another flight called him vile.

Super model Naomi Campbell is not just known for walking down the runway. This beauty has an ugly temper and has been known to throw some news worthy tantrums when things don’t go her way. She beat her former assistant with a hotel telephone, and she even beat her friend the actress Yvonne Scio to a bloody pulp over a dress. Campbell was once banned from British Airways. A flight attendant simply described her as a “nightmare.”

Kate Middleton

I can only imagine how much time Princess Kate Middleton spends in the sky. She is very popular for her sense of style and philanthropy work. While flying she is no trouble. A flight crew described her as low key. They also said her husband is hilarious and their son Prince George was chatty and amusing. I guess when you are part of the royal family it best that you behave well mannered.

Ron Dennis

Ron Dennis is a big wig in the Formula 1 circuit. He wears many hats but is must famous for being the founder and CEO of McLaren Technology Group. Ron’s attitude was scrutinized when a member of a flight crew revealed that there would be a flight delay, he furiously remarked “this is a VIP flight, tell them it’s an emergency.” No matter how important he is, if the flight isn’t ready to leave it will not leave. Someone needs to teach these Formula 1 guys to have patience.

Cilla Black

Cilla Black was a famed English singer and actress. She also a horrible person to be around according to some flight attendants testimonies. Black has specific demands when she boards a flight. Some of which are she only sits in seat 1A, she requires a bottle of champagne, and she only speaks through a personal assistant. One flight attendant has some strong feeling toward Black saying, “she should be shot,” and calling her “quite possibly one of the most unpleasant individuals I have ever come across.” Seems like Ms. Black was also banned from British Airways, due to her excessive seating demands.

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant is known for playing the funny guy who is an a-hole, but also your friend. Satire, irony and sarcasm are his tools of choice. When Grant is not in front of the camera giving people a laugh, it is said that he not so charming in real life. That really all depends on who you ask. A flight attendant that served him thought he was “a thoroughly nice chap.”

Madonna

Madonna is a pop icon and she knows it. Not everyone has had a pleasant run in with the entertainer. Not everyone has had a bad experience with her. This flight attendant received a little of both during a flight. She recalled Madonna being “a bit precious” even though she has to go through her personal assistant to speak to her. I guess anyone would take that instead of hear lashing out.

Phil Collins

Phil Collins began his career as the drummer for the band Genesis. He later became a solo artist and created hits like “In the Air Tonight,” and “Against All Odds.” Phil has been around for a while musically as an artist, songwriter and producer, which allows him to travel the world. His personality must not match the soft gentleness off his music. A flight crew member only used one word to describe Collins, “grumpy.” I guess that comes with old age.
